About This Event
Festival overview
Deepavali (Diwali) — the Festival of Lights — is one of India's most beloved celebrations. Rows of oil lamps (diyas) illuminate homes, temples, and streets, symbolising the victory of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. Families worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha for prosperity, exchange sweets and gifts, and celebrate with fireworks.
Shyamakali Puja is the Odia tradition of worshipping Goddess Kali on the new moon night of Karthika. The fierce, dark form of the Goddess is propitiated with special rituals, flowers, and offerings. She is worshipped as the destroyer of evil and the protector of devotees. The temple atmosphere is charged with devotional energy as lamps illuminate every corner.
