Netra Utsava and Naba Jaubana Darshana
14 July 2026 · Netra Utsava marks the end of Anabasara — the deities' eyes are newly painted and their youthful forms (Naba Jaubana) are revealed to devotees for the first time before Rath Yatra.
About This Event
Festival overview
Netra Utsava (Eye Festival) marks the end of Anabasara seclusion. On this day, the hereditary painters (Chitrakaras) paint fresh eyes on the deities, symbolising their complete recovery and return to divine youth. This is the first darshan after the 15-day seclusion and is deeply emotional for devotees.
The deities appear in Naba Jaubana Besa — their resplendent youthful form — radiating fresh energy and beauty. The sight of Lord Jagannatha in Naba Jaubana is considered one of the most auspicious darshans of the year. This day immediately precedes the grand Rath Yatra procession.
