About This Event
Festival overview
Following Snana Purnima, Lord Jagannatha, Balabhadra, and Subhadra enter a period of sacred seclusion called Anabasara (30 June to 13 July 2026). During this fortnight, the main sanctum doors remain closed and the deities are not available for regular darshan.
Devotees are instead blessed with Pati Dian Darshana — darshan of the Patta Chitra paintings on the outer doors. These sacred paintings depict the divine forms of the deities. The period is deeply significant: the deities are believed to undergo sacred rejuvenation, attended only by the hereditary Daitapati servitors. The conclusion of Anabasara on Netra Utsava marks the deities' return to full glory before Rath Yatra.
