Maha Shivaratri
6 March 2027 · Maha Shivaratri — the Great Night of Lord Shiva — is one of the most sacred nights in the Hindu year, when devotees keep an all-night vigil, chant Om Namah Shivaya, observe a strict fast, and offer bilva leaves, milk, and flowers to the Shivalinga. It is a night of profound spiritual depth when Shiva's grace flows abundantly, and communities gather to chant and remain awake in loving remembrance through the sacred hours until dawn. In the Odia Jagannatha tradition, the great Panchasakha saints taught that Jagannatha embodies the unity of Shiva and Vishnu (Harihara), reflecting the all-encompassing theology of Mahaprabhu's abode.

Festival overview
Maha Shivratri (the Great Night of Shiva) falls on the 14th night of Phalguna, just before the new moon. It is the most sacred night for devotees of Lord Shiva — the night of his cosmic dance (Tandava) and the night of the sacred marriage of Shiva and Parvati.
Devotees observe a strict fast throughout the day and night, perform abhisheka of the Shivalinga with milk, honey, curd, ghee, and water, offer bilva (bel) leaves, and chant 'Om Namah Shivaya.' The four prahar (three-hourly) pujas through the night are considered especially powerful. Lord Jagannatha, as a manifestation of all divine forms, receives special prayers on this night as well.
